Edinburgh in spring

For christmas my brother, Georg (her husband) and I gave a weekend tript to Edinburgh to my mum. I have been to Edinburgh a couple of times and just love the place. My brother saw the town during his visit while I was studying in Edinburgh ... and Mum and Georg were just curious to see the place!

View from Edinburgh castle
Arriving on Thursday night we headed straight on to the Royal Mile as our Hotel (Ibis on Hunter Square) was just located round the corner. The accommodation is rather basic but offers great online rates. It is highly recommendable because it is located right in the middle of town - all the place you want to see and go to are within walking distance (unless you want to hike in the highlands....)

Haggis on Grassmarket @ White Hart Inn
Friday and Saturday brought days full of sightseeing and discovering the town. On our list were the Edinburg Castle (just a great thing to kick a visit to this town of with as it gives you a great overview in terms of city structure and history!), the Royal Mile, Princess Street, Cockburn Street, Calton Hill, The Whisky Experience, Grassmarket, the Farmers Market on Castle Terrace, The National Museum of Scotland, Pub visits (e.g. the Jolly Judge, The White Hart Inn, just to name a few).

Whisky experience
Wheather basically provided everything: fog, sun, rain, wind and the same all over again! But of course this could not keep us from our activities. Luke joined us for the whole Saturday and we really enjoyed having a local guide. In the evening Cass also came to town and we went out for dinner to a restaurant in the Newtown which is called The Dogs. The place was just brilliant: decoration and interior where really unique because dog themed throughout, service was friendly and somehow made you feel at home at this place and the food was delicious (check the menu online!). A really great experience! (Restaurant review in the Guardian)
