Lightning Photography

You might have wondered why I was not blogging recently. The reason is that it is summer and I am mainly outdoors. Come back right after work ... grab the towel and the swim gear and head to the water. Right after swimming we quite often hang out at a Bar called Bazillus ... they have turned their outside seating into a beach with 5 tons of sand and make it the best place to enjoy a beer on the banks of river Salzach. The reason for my blogging tonight is that I finally managed to make my first lightning photographies. I have read load of stuff on taking pictures of lightnings and actually found this one very useful.

Then I experienced two great summer thunderstorms with beautiful lightnings - but I was always far away from my camera. Tonight when I was sitting at home reading a book I realised that bad weather was slowly pulling in from the German border and prepared my camera. I guessed right because the thunderstorm brought a lightning.

Below see my first lightning photographies. You won't guess but it took me about 1 hour to get those. It is really difficult to find the right settings and then the right spot in the sky to aim at. Many times the lightning struck when I was just moving the camera.... Nevertheless ... I enjoyed taking these pictures. It takes patience ... well, I will hang on to that stuff.
